Kendall Hunt is excited to announce that the BSCS Biology: Understanding for life program is the first high school science program to receive thumbs up from EdReports. These ratings signify that materials fulfill EdReports’ high standards for quality and usability.
Districts and schools have long looked to EdReports as a trusted source for impartial reviews of instructional materials, but EdReports has not published reviews for high school science programs until this year. In its inaugural review of high school science programs, EdReports gave BSCS Biology green ratings on all three gateways: designed for NGSS, coherence and scope, and usability. The free report offers comprehensive information of the program’s quality.
The full-year, high school level biology program was created to align with the Next Generation Science Standards for teachers to make challenging shifts in their teaching and develop lifelong scientific knowledge in all students through the inquiry-based, research-driven curriculum. Through labs, activities, and assessments, teachers can effectively track each student’s progress towards scientific learning outcomes. This program includes four units, each centered around an important societal challenge that requires students to have a foundational understanding of biological systems.
“Kendall Hunt is proud to have BSCS Biology: Understanding for Life as part of our high school science curriculum offerings throughout the past couple of years,” said Kendall Hunt K-12 Vice President Charley Cook. “Receiving all green ratings from EdReports indicates that we are providing top-quality programs that prioritize the development of student’s success throughout their lives.”
Using this standards aligned curriculum, students develop a unifying understanding between various biology topics, that goes beyond memorization. Understanding for Life was designed with the goal of preparing all students to make decisions that are well-reasoned and well-informed in their personal, professional, and civic lives.
The program intentionally integrates support for English language learners and students with below-grade-level literacy skills.
