Another month, another standout employee to recognize! Tim Pope is the K12 Curriculum Director here at Kendall Hunt. Tim works with schools, teachers, and authors to develop curriculum tools that will meet the diverse needs of today’s teachers and students.
Prior to Kendall Hunt, Tim received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his master’s degree at the University of Dayton. Since then, Tim has been working in education for over twenty years. In this time, he has taught theology, Spanish, sociology, psychology, law studies, algebra, and statistics. In his ten years working in professional development, he has also visited schools in 46 states with hopes to visit Maine, Rhode Island, Mississippi, and Wyoming.
Tim’s work has allowed him to travel to many states and classrooms. He explains, “I have the privilege of being in the classroom with teachers and students as well as working directly with our incredible production and IT teams to determine how to create the best learning tools.”
This experience allows Tim to discover areas for improvement and directly implement changes. He describes an example, “I recently met with two teachers using our new Discovering Algebra eBook. They mentioned a couple of changes that would make the use of the tool much easier. I came back to the office, met with our partner, Desmos, the IT team, and the Production Services group and we were able to implement those changes. Large publishers do not provide teachers and developers the opportunity to truly affect the scope and vision of curriculum.”
In between traveling, Tim serves both the international and local community. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, Joyce, and five children. Tim serves on the board for a non-profit called Teachers2Teachers International. Here, he works to promote STEM education in developing countries such as Guatemala, the Galapagos Islands and this summer- Kenya! Tim and his wife also work with Opening Doors here in Dubuque.
Overall, Tim’s passionate efforts to better education positively affects the people of the world, country, Dubuque, and most of all, Kendall Hunt.
