Precalculus with Trigonometry

Grade Levels: High School

PROGRAM FEATURES

PROGRAM FEATURES

In order to support designing a course that meets the needs of your students given your standards, the book provides a flexible development of chapters.

After an introduction to transformations of functions and their use as mathematical models in Chapter 1, you can

either continue to study elementary functions in Chapters 2-4
or go directly to the study of periodic functions in Chapters 5-9

You are free to choose topics for the rest of the course, depending on the specifications for the course and your students’ needs. Semesters could be reversed if your course requires trigonometry in the first semester. It is recommended that the last chapter, Chapter 15, form the culmination of the course because it ties together much of what they have learned throughout the year and introduces the concept of instantaneous rate of change, using limits that have been studied earlier in the course. A formal study of derivatives and integrals is deliberately withheld so that students are not lulled into a false sense of security when they encounter these topics in Calculus.
