She works on student-paced mastery learning in math or science classrooms and incorporating authentic scientific processes into classrooms at every level. For 10 years she taught high school chemistry, physics and physical science. After she earned her PhD, she became a program-manager for an NSF-Funded GK-12 program at Kansas State University. She is the author of a chemistry textbook, an NSTA Press book on Mastery Learning in the Science Classroom as well as numerous journal articles. She has also won various awards, including the NSTA Excellence in Inquiry Based Science Teacher award. She continues to work with teachers through her writing, speaking and interactions and her goal is to make an impact on the way we educate children. She is a mother of two elementary-school children, photographer and dancer.
