PROGRAM FEATURES

The Project A3: Awesome Advanced Activities for Mentoring Mathematical Mindscontent allows students to think deeply about the mathematics by engaging in rich discussions and in-depth written explanations to justify their thinking. These investigations are a far cry from your typical enrichment worksheets. Students love the games and interactive activities that challenge them and encourage their critical and creative thinking.

The three units cover the following topics:

Level 3-4

  • Shape Sleuths
  • Amazing Algebra
  • Multiplication Madness
  • Pentomino Project

Level 4-5

  • Notable Numbers
  • Fantastic Fractions
  • Sensational Shapes
  • Flag Design Project

Level 5-6

  • Adventures in Algebra
  • Playing with Proportions
  • Intriguing Integers
  • Boxes by Kids Project

Level 3-4 is divided into three activity sections: geometry, algebraic thinking, and multiplication. Each section begins with an Anchor Activity followed by five or six further explorations and extensions that are connected in some way to the Anchor.

Shape Sleuths strengthens understanding of geometric shapes in all orientations with a focus on area and perimeter.
Amazing Algebra explores equivalence and a variety of number patterns that help build the foundation for understanding equations.
Multiplication Madness is a set of games and activities that deepen students’ understanding of multiplication and build computational fluency.

There is also a final project, which includes the investigation of pentominoes.

Level 4-5 is divided into three activity sections: number theory, fractions, and geometry activities. Each section begins with an Anchor Activity followed by five or six further explorations and extensions that are connected in some way to the Anchor.

Notable Numbers focuses on number theory including factors and multiples, prime and composite numbers, and abundant, deficient, and perfect numbers.
Fantastic Fractions includes equivalence, ordering, addition and subtraction of fractions, ordering and adding decimals, and finding fractional areas.
Sensational Shapes deals with two-dimensional polygons and their properties.

There is also a final project incorporating geometry, measurement, and fractions.

Level 5–6 is divided into three activity sections: algebra, proportional reasoning, and integer activities. Each section begins with an Anchor Activity followed by five or six further explorations and extensions that are connected in some way to the Anchor.

Adventures in Algebra focuses on describing patterns and relationships with symbols and evaluating expressions and equations.
Playing with Proportions builds understanding of ratio and proportions using unit rates, metric conversions, probability, and tape/bar diagrams.
Intriguing Integers and More focuses on ordering and comparing integers including negative fractions and decimals and addition of integers.

There is also a final project incorporating surface area and volume.

Kendall Hunt is committed to the successful implementation of our programs.  Upon adoption of our program, we will work with district leaders to create a customized plan that maximizes your ability to use Project M3 to fulfill your instructional vision and goals.  Your trainer will be an expert in the field and many are or have been teachers in the classroom that have successfully used the program.

Professional learning options include:

  • Hands-on, interactive onsite workshops on a choice of topics, including:
    • Introduction to the program and materials
    • Grade-level specific training including collaborative lesson planning
    • Verbal and/or written communication
